Expeditions
Expeditions versus Safaris
The difference between a safari and an expedition is that you would normally be taken on safari to an area which your guide is very familiar with whilst an expedition refers to a visit to an area that your guide has most likely never travelled to.
One thing all guides have in common is their passion for the wild outdoors and they get incredibly excited about visiting and discovering new areas. This is typically what an expedition safari is all about. Because of their busy schedules most guides will only have time for one or two expeditions per year but if you can twist their arm to arrange an expedition for you, it will be guaranteed to deliver a once in a lifetime experience. These trips are particularly suited to individuals who have travelled to Africa numerous times and are more interested in an adventure rather than a smooth running holiday. You will need to be prepared to venture out of your comfort zone and most importantly you'll need a sense of humour to negotiate those occasions when things may go a little pear shaped.
There are few places left in Africa that are truly undiscovered however even the most experienced guides who have travelled the length and breadth of Africa in their many years of guiding have not been everywhere. Whilst they may be new to an area that they may take you on an expedition their invaluable experience and lateral thinking ability is sufficient to surmount almost any obstacle encountered.
The excitement, energy and enthusiasm they exude when discovering something new is contagious and makes these expeditions very easy going and more fun than any other type of safari.
